I am looking for help to get this brown desaturated skin tones.

Here is what I tried so far:
- contrast sharpening
- b/w layer in diffuse glow to get the desaturation
- new fill layer with solid color brown tone

Re: How to get this skin tone

A sample (unretouched) image with similar lightening, clothing and background would probably help to find a way to recreate this style.
For now I'd say you should use a gradient map on "Color" mode, sample dark red for the shadows, light & desaturated orange for the midtones and a light & desaturated orange/yellow for the highlights.
Set it on "Color" mode and mask in just the face (reduce opacity to taste).

Next use a "Selective Color" (mode: "Absolute"), scroll down to the whites and remove some black, go to the blacks and add some black.

Maybe you should also have a look on (inverted) luminosity masks for colorizing the skin.

I want to say that if you duplicate the image and change the new layer is multiple you get something similar.

CS, Welcome to RetouchPro! Essentially reduce saturation, enhance detail, add contrast. As Jonas suggests, please attach or post an image that you would like this effect applied to.

Something like this?

It's a little hard with this small jpeg, since those other images have almost no shadows in the face, but reducing them on this jpeg wields terrible results :P

Re: How to get this skin tone

Is this the effect you are looking for? The attached image has been significantly downsized so you will not e able to see lot of the fine sharp edges.

Re: How to get this skin tone

Thanks for your reply so far.
@mistermonday, I am looking more for this brown desaturated look like in then initial linked images.
@DJSoulglo, this goes into the right direction, I posted a link to the original size of my unretouched image

I tried meanwhile the gradient map method form Der_W but I could still not reach that clear look.
