Welcome to retouch pro...

First of all what shadows are you referring to? Do you refer to the BIG shadow on her neck and cheeks? Or do you refer to the "small" shadows that look like lines for example the ones under her eye?
Using shadows and highlights without masking the effect will just brighten the photo but won't take care of the shadows they'll just look "less dark"

Welcome to RetouchPRO

What software and version are you using?

Using PS Ver 7... healing brush, cloned a bit, hue/Sat layers, masks, Dodge and Burned some...

Practice cubed

Hello- I've used some shadow/highlight adjustments and then some LAB curves to add some color.

Re: removing shadows from face and neck

Hi!
You can try with a neutral grey layer set in "overlay" (choose new layer from the panel and fill in neutral color for "overlay"), and paint over the shadows with a low opacity brush. White for lighten, black for darken (I use it a lot to add to texture in the hair). Works usually. Levels with a mask blending mode "lighten" works as well.
