Re: opinions on retouch pls.

To me it looks very soft with the low contrast... I think I would at least get rid of the very distracting bright areas on the horizontal bars or clone out the bars altogether...

without a before to compare with... I think the retouch needs some vibrancy to POP.... That is unless this is the look you were evidently going for... then it looks good except for the tips of the bars that grab the viewers eye

Re: opinions on retouch pls.

thanks for the reply, i will work on that now, i have a bit of a problem with adding contrast at the end, let's say i spend 4 hours working on a photo, working towards a certain effect, i find that once i'm happy with the effect i was after why would i change it all at the end with a contrast layer, landscapes are different as you dont have skin tones...etc.

Re: opinions on retouch pls.

cloned and added a little contrast, what's your opinion on this way that i added contrast:

duplicate layer and set it to overlay
merge all layers to new layer (shift + ctrl + alt + E)
change blending mode to luminosity

that may be a long way round of doing something very basic but i dunno.

I think it looks a lot better... but Opinions may vary! IE:... You liked it better before.. In the end it is your picture that you or a client has to be happy with no matter what others say,.... so I agree with you... If you are happy with it... why change it!

There are many ways to accomplish the same thing in Photoshop... whatever you are comfortable with is usually the best... A new Adjustment Curves layer (just press OK ... with no adjustments) and change the mode to Overlay or Soft Light and lower opacity if needed should do the trick also

If your Software has a Vibrance adjustment you might try tweaking it also

Have you tried the HIRALOAM - method? I like that one especially for portraits contrast. Unsharp mask with HIgh RAdius LOw AMount.

Re: opinions on retouch pls.

Personally, I would have used a masked vibrance adjustment layer to draw emphasis to the face.

Re: opinions on retouch pls.

i dont know what it is about this photo, when i look at it after not seeing it for a while i think YUK, the skin is horrible and all muddy, the overall tone is boring but then as i look at it for longer it starts to look better, weird.
