Grayscale mode masking hair. Impossible?

Please Can you give me some hints how to mask hair not in rgb, IN GRAYSCALE. My 8x10" b&w negs are shot against a neutral background (zone V-VI). My approach is to modify the background due to bromide drag with uneven development. Thanks a lot in advance! trautmann

Re: Grayscale mode masking hair. Impossible?

Maybe if you send an example people can be more helpful. If you also mention what software you have available even more so.

Re: Grayscale mode masking hair. Impossible?

Applied a levels adjustment on channel copy, inverted and used dodge and burn tools to define the contrast on the edges, normal paint brush for the dark areas inside of the woman. Refine hairline a little more with D&B-Tools by just clicking a few times with low opacity. Unfortunately the file size is rather small, so you should get much better results with your original :-)
