Help with virtual facelifts

As a newbie, I can find a lot of help with how to make young brides and models look almost perfect. But I need help with what to do with her 50 year old mother and 75 year old grandmother. Can anyone point me to some information or tutorials on how to make older folks look better without being obviously being retouched? I need help both with the technical and artistic aspects of this job. Thanks

Re: Help with virtual facelifts

You should normally take the same approach to the retouching of elderly women in the same way you would professionally retouch younger women. Remove temporary blemishes, clean up stray hairs, even out harsh transitions and deep shadows caused by non optimal lighting, etc. Dodging and burning should not remove natural skin lines / wrinkles but instead make them less prominent. Enhance what is there and don't try to smooth out the skin or remove all the texture - unless that is what the subject wants you to do, but then they will almost certainly look unnatural and prominently retouched.
Regards, Murray
