How to delete a color channel?

Sometimes I like the look of an image when I disable one of the color channels. How can I make that permanent? When I delete the color channel, the mode changes to Multichannel and everything gets screwed up.

Hi Kevin, just open the layers palette, select the channel you wish to eliminate, fill it with black. The quickest way to do that is hit D to reset the color swatch, press X to change the fg color from white to black and hitalt+backspace key.
