Color toning

I am currently working on some images that I would like to tone similar to this image.

The image is done by Mert & Marcus.

I have got the image pretty close by a combination of levels adjustment and a photo filter. I am puzzled as to how to achieve the correct tone on the skin.

I am very new to playing with color in images. So some guidance would be helpful

Is the first image you show the original or one you have modified? If it is modified, where is the original?

If this 2nd image is your effort so far, then you have worked on it and it has therefore been retouched. But you say it is unretouched, so which is it?

Re: Color toning

Try adding news empty layer, fill it with a deepish blue/grey colour and set blending mode to exclusion and reduce opacity.

See what this gives you...

Re: Color toning

there is a nice simple way you can do this there is a free program called hex color finder which is a pipette which takes the colour from anywhere you want in this case that other picture it will generate the hex code for that colour then simply paste the code into the colour box in the hex code box then simply use color mode and this will generate the exact tone.

Or you could just use the colour picker in photoshop which also has all the numbers!

Re: Color toning

Much depends on the software you employ
Was playing with similar file in raw nikon using capture two nx
Easy to pull the cold cast on the skin tone while retaining much
Of the warmth

Doing this in post is a bit cumbersome and unpredictable i would imagine
The effect was accomplished with gels on the lights or a filter on the lens
check the shadow colors on the white background for a clue

http://www.mediachance.com/dce/index.html
this works well if you have a few hundred shots to rework quickly
pick the filter and let it rip
i did a shoot the other day and ended up with a bad lighting clash that my d90 couldnt sort out
this program saved every shot (over 200) and it processes very quickly
it's the one i used for the 82c shot above.
it's a free trial to play with
not the end all solution but a pretty good tool to have around
other programs out there that do the same thing (batch wise) but generally too pricey
cheers

Re: Color toning

Here's a *very* quick go at it for you. I'm including the PSD for all of those interested in seeing how I did the color work. I've never tried to get tones like this so I don't know if it's the best way but it looks pretty close and I guess that's all that matters.
