Changing Shadow Color

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know how to change the color of shadows. I've seen this same effect with different colors like purple and blue too. Could it also be a cross-processing effect too? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you...

Re: Changing Shadow Color

I changed the color in hue & saturation and masked everything out and painted through the mask to reveal only the background.... very simple and basic... there are many other ways to accomplish this. I did it very quickly so you see a small residue of the previous color on the edges of the hair.

Re: Changing Shadow Color

Hi photo2216, the 'official' way to get this is effect is by shooting RAW and then using the Split Toning dialog to add colour to the shadows and highlights as you see fit... it's a more colour-accurate way to split color than by using Hue/Sat on a masked layer.

See attachment.

Re: Changing Shadow Color

Thanks barrington! That's the exact effect that I was going for. I use capture one, so I've never seen this option before. Now I know...

In theory your method should work, but when changing the color of the background with a person standing in front of it with split toning in Camera Raw
using the shadow sliders, part of the person also starts to change color and there is no way to mask that out in Camera Raw unless I am missing something.

Wolfman, I should have been more specific. You answered my question correctly. But the Camera Raw technique seems to add to the effect that I'm going for. Thanks for your input!
