Amazing Portaits - any ideas?

Hi guys,

I recently discovered the work of this guy on flickr:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/benoitp...z/in/contacts/

His portraits are amazing, with an incredible clarity.

I know he's shooting with a 5D with fast glass, but does anyone have any idea of the post processing he is using?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Re: Amazing Portaits - any ideas?

What you're finding eye catching is a combination of color contrast (orange-blue/cyan) and DOF

Hi Godmother! Yes, you are quite right, I also noticed the subtle tones. Any ideas on how he is getting this look. Is it a fill layer set to softlight or seperate manipulation of channels in curves?

Basically blue is pushed into the shadows and yellow into the highlights.
Look at this tutorial (its about color grading movies, but it can be applied on photography too):

My guess is you can achieve this in Lab Color. (at least in Ps). Could use Camera Raw also.

Nobody has mentioned using Color Balance! It is quick and easy to use. There are only 3 color sliders. I think you will be very happy with your result once you work on it. Let me know how you like it.
