Ha, works just fine, and faster. Much better now! I don't want to keep talking because I don't want to offend nobody... hehe

Re: Automatic Skin Smoothing.

I re-wrote almost all of the major code, so watch out for "bugs" and let me know if you find any.

cheers

After a long test, I found that sometimes, sliders move by themselves after I try to set some point.

size slider: moves down to Variable.
Pores and Blotches slider: moves hard left (these 2 not often thou..)

And sometimes the Strenght slider don't get active on the first 3-5 clicks.

Re: Automatic Skin Smoothing.

this sometimes happens when you set the slider, and sometimes while it is still making the updates you move the mouse (it moves the slider but usually not the settings)

it's some delay between the interface and Photoshop... unfortunately nothing I can do about that.

but if the movement is under different circumstances try to replicate the situation and let me know so I can replicate it too

example

I made another 10min. skin-smooth example for those who wanted to see how it can be used.

This time i left the "unrasterized" layers so you can see the settings.
(they are in folder "step1")

this is done with version 1.7

Re: Automatic Skin Smoothing.

I've been watching this plugin for some weeks now.

I really wanted to hate it.

At first I would've declared it useless without even installing and downloading such a 'cheat'. After all, how could anything defile the holy alter of dodge and burn? I won't even use High Pass since the results are far inferior to the technique I use.

But, and damn you, I've played with this plugin for a day and I'm enormously impressed with the fidelity it offers.

Now, it's not a one-stop-shop and never will be. With some hefty masking and painting though, ShadowLight's tool can really do some of the heavy lifting in the earlier stages of a retouch very well. I'd guess that on a 5-hour retouch it might lop off about 90 minutes of early skinwork, which is a substantial timesaver.

Of course you'll still have to heal and clone and dodge and burn - but as a little helper before you begin the stuff you're supposed to be getting paid for, this tool really sets the benchmark.

I'll definitely be exploring its potential on my next 'proper' work.

Re: Automatic Skin Smoothing.

The real key is you can use the tool multiple times adjusting to the section of skin you are working on and refining it over and over. Its a great tool all based on the same principles we been using with frequency separation just made easier....
