What do you think about retouching plug-ins?

I mean plug-ins like Portraiture (www.imagenomic.com/pt.aspx) or Portrait Professional (www.portraitprofessional.com). Do you think it can be used for quick retouching or its only for ordinary people who dont know how to retouch?

Re: What do you think about retouching plug-ins?

Well, since SRB Photo noticed that Portraiture is quite similar to using frequency separation here: http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=611180
I guess what it comes down to is his bottom line: it's a workflow tool.

(If you're unfamiliar with the frequency separation technique see this: http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?th...=1#post9585669 or for a demonstration on how to use/create a band stop: http://www.digitalphotoshopretouchin...s/hair-retouch.)

I know frequency separation, but I dont know Portraiture... Thanks for the links.
BTW, does anybody know what does it mean "using the IHP with the 1/3 rule"? Natalia_Taffarel is recommending it there.

Re: What do you think about retouching plug-ins?

She uses the split to create the high pass, discards the low pass layer, inverts the high pass and then uses "Filter"-"Blur"-"Gaussian Blur" with a third of the radius that she used to create the split on it.
A little fine-tuning would be better than 100% relaying on that imho.

For Portraiture you might want to test the demo version: http://imagenomic.com/download_pt_de.aspx

Re: What do you think about retouching plug-ins?

I tried Potraiture and it does very good job, but I'm not sure I understand whats the difference between "fine", "medium" and "large" sliders in detail smoothing. I know i can adjust them intuitively, but I'd like to know what they really mean. I dont see much difference between them. Treshold is probably something like "effect strength", right?

Re: What do you think about retouching plug-ins?

I just very quickly tested Portrait Professional, it has more sliders than Portraiture (you can shape face too etc.). It does good job too, but sometimes I see strange digital artefacts (maybe I'm doing something wrong, I dont know yet. Does anybody tested it?
