It's the same as using RGB_MAX-RGB_MIN which is what most people would call chroma (saturation in dependence on the lightness -> no 100% saturated blacks etc.).
The advantage of this is, that it's quite dynamic, so you can have a live preview on how the saturation changes while you're working.

Edit #2: If you want me to, I'll do a short video tutorial about this technique :-).
thanks a lot for the kindness
i'm using your skill about saturation mask
to create the mask i should go in the channel palete and click on rgb or R or B or B to get it
right
no

Select All and Ctrl+Shift+C (Copy merged) and go to the Channel Palette, create a new channel and paste into that channel.
about a video , it would super cool , but it's matter of time
if you like ,when you have time , we will appreciate it

Forget actions. Try to understand what you doing and then you will be able to create your own actions ...

It is not easy but you will be happy with the result.

Re: saturation mask and Glow , do you know how do

I don't know why, but my screen recording just decided to give me some headache (which means that the videos are about 8GB in size, black and white and extremely distorted...).
Anyways, I created a set of actions to create the saturation mask (in the channels palette) or an immediate glow effect (which uses the saturation mask action, so don't rename/move these if you don't know how to rerecord actions): http://www.sendspace.com/file/xds7hu

If I manage to get a straight tutorial done, I'm going to edit my post.

Edit: It worked :-): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xCo-nKpMSU

Thanks Jonas, now I get it and understand it. The video made it all make sense.

Ladies/Gentlemen, we should nominate Jonas for the Noble Prize for Peace - PhotoShop Artistic Help for humanity and mere mortals. Serious.

Re: saturation mask and Glow , do you know how do

Aw, it's great to see that you like it :-)!
You know what? Just a few hours ago I optimized my "Luminosity masks" action (it creates 15 curves adj. layers for the brightest lights to the darkest shadows and the narrowest mid-tones in between), I'll just upload it for you :-).
I don't know, in how far this represents Adam's zones, but if it doesn't fit, I'll just do a little research ;-)
Download it if you want to, the tutorials are free to share/download etc.

Of course you may skype me :-). It's always nice to chat with similar minded people *g*

Yeah, I'm using CS5 at the moment. I think the best was CS3 (CS4 didn't have anything that I was too fancy about and CS5 has its nifty things, but nothing too brilliant imho).
But since I'm a student still, affording CS5 wasn't that expensive and so I thought that all these little new features might as well make life a little easier for me ;-).

@Aladdin: thank you! But like Adrian Crenshaw once said so fittingly: "I'm just a geek with too much time on my hands" ;-).
And we're all here to share and learn. I didn't learn everything on my own as well, so it's just right to give a little of this back to the community :-).

Edit: Btw., I forgot to add this, renaming the MMXCore.8BX (or for that matter even the FastCore.8BX) didn't result in any crashes on my computer. But possibly if you're experiencing crashes, you should just rename it back again, don't you think ;-)?

Wow, this is really great, and very nice of you to post it here. After seen your video, I was going to ask you if there's a way to save those settings, but now that's not necessary. Thanx a lot man.
