Skin tones

Having scanned an old(ish) photo where the original skin tones don't look too bad in the photo, the attached piccy to this post however you can see the fella on the left has quite a pink face, yet the chick on the right seems pretty much ok.

Scanned with a CanoScan LiDE 60 scanner, controls for colour calibration are few and far between. The screen on my MacBook Pro is calibrated (Spyder3 Pro) to remove a subtle blue hue, but these faces still look wrong.

What would be the best way of de-pink-ifying the fellas face?

What I've done so far is to apply a quick mask around the fella's face, invert that, then apply a hue/saturation adjustment layer on the reds, pushing the hue up +20, desaturating -10 and bumping the brightness up around +10.

The effect doesn't look too bad actually, just wondering if anyone else would have a more "scientific" way of doing it?

Jason, welcome to RetouchPro. There are a number of ways to cool down his face. One quick and simple one is to add a Selective Color Adjustment layer. The Red channel will be active by default. Just drag the Magenta slider over toward the left until you like the color. If another area like gets reduced undesireably, you can just paint over it on the mask with a black brush.
