Re: Skin Smooth

I love the idea of this plugin but I can't seem to it to work properly with my photos.

I've adjusted the settings in every possible combination and nothing seems to make the skin look better... in fact it makes the skin look terribly blotchy and actually changes the color tone of the skin. I know I'm doing something wrong but I can't possibly figure out what.

Also I believe I am using it correctly. Allow me to tell you my steps:

I select the image layer and hit "Create"

I adjust the "pores and blotches" , "strength", and "size" bar until I see the results I want.

Then I "create" several more adjustment layers to correct other aspects the previous layer failed to do.

Then I rasterize all the layers and paint in the corrections using the masks that are automatically generated.

Is this all right?

So yeah my problem is that adjusting the bars makes the skin far more muddy and uneven then it was originally.

Oh I would also like to note that I am working with full body shots and not just the face.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: Skin Smooth

the values are dynamically calculated to the size of the image, however they are set to the maximum possible situation they may be needed (say a face-closeup)

in your case I would suggest you go with very low values (toward pores), and move the multiplier slider towards "exact"

and avoid moving the strength-slider over 50%

if you like, post your PSD so we can take a look at it, otherwise it's impossible to guess what would work best in this case

Try - Save for Web & Devices, and adjust the Quality until you hit 100 kb number.

Sorry, I'm assuming you use Photoshop...

Re: Skin Smooth

Thanks for your update ShadowLight. I have a shoot coming up this weekend so I'm looking forward to giving your new version a workout.
I haven't been feeling inspired to work on my older stuff.

Re: Skin Smooth

CS5: www.46it.ca/skinsmooth/PhotonicTools_V6.zip
NEW:
- QuickMask friendly
- preview (select a region and press GET)
- quick skin-select button

Limitations:
- RGB, 8bit

No Warranties whatsoever (and all that Jazz)

Writing this, came to having to deal with numerous PS bugs, very poor script documentation, undeclared functions, extremely slow execution of the code... and I'm somewhat surprised I got it working even this much.
To be hones I get the feeling someone in Adobe intentionally keeps the scripting capability a mess. anyway....

The Preview uses slightly different algorithm inside Flash (so there may be slight difference between the preview and PS), but should give you a good idea where to make the corrections. Strength-slider affects only PS, not the Preview.

If there is a lot of requests I *may* try to port it for CS4 (no CS3 ver. is possible).

-have fun
