Przemekb, unless you have the rights to that photo, it is copyright protected and it would be illegal for me to post it without permission. Have you tried my process as noted above?
Thanks & regards,
Murray

Re: how to achieve the same colors and contrast?

Hi Flashtones, without permission to take it from the owner's site and repost it is definitely a violation of copyright and so it should be removed. Some owner's might feel flattered while others might be quite upset. There is no way to know without asking the owner. Therefore all we can do is obey the rules.
Perhaps if you post the instructions as I have, then Przemekb can replicate.
Thanks & regards, Murray

Re: how to achieve the same colors and contrast?

przemekb, attached is a screen grab of my layers. From the bottom up

Layer 1 = your base image linked to in post #6 of this thread.

copy = a copy of layer 1 desaturated and put in Soft Light blend mode.

copy 2 = a dupe of copy, still in SL, with a touch of Shadow/Highlights applied to the highlights (bride's veil).

Vibrance at +80 to slightly counteract the desaturation.

2 darkening curves to tone down the overly bright top/left of image.

The masks are crude because I'm pecking this out with a finger on my laptop's trackpad.

The primary "effect" has been to add contrast w/ the SL layers, but one could do the same just using curves/layers and HSL/Vibrance too.

All in all, my approach wasn't very different than mistermonday's. We both used contrast enhancing blend modes along with some saturation adjustment.

Hi there: Here are my 2 or 3 cents. I'm a musician and recording tech. It means I'm not a photographer, I'm just a Ps fan. I've noticed that the principle in these 2 arms of art is the same... Everything depends in the very base. (sorry about my bad english). I've seen many people here in RP asking the same question. "How can i achieve this look". To be honest "THE BASE" has a lot to do with results. In recording, if your base is good, there is a greater probability that the rest of the recording is going to fit. Same thing happens in photography and Ps. Bear in mind these: which camera, lightning and ambient the photographer used, also "the colors surrounding the ambient in which he/she shot, even the clothes people were using. Having this in mind, you can process two different photos using exactly the same method in Ps, and the result is going to be different.

On the other hand Ps is a never ending learning program which is very cool. My guess is that you need to do some research on lights and shadows using Ps. Color adjustments, or color correction and sharpening are also very important on your results.

Here is a link about boosting colors in Lab Color, i'm not saying this is going to answer your question, but I believe it is very simple and yet practical, adjustment layers and masks using color correction are also great tools.

Later I will post a link for color correction...

later...
