Changing eye color?

I've been able to change eye color for the most part and keep it looking fairly natural, but one area is giving me problems - changing light eye colors to a natural looking brown/dark brown.

Here's a good example image of my own eye. (straight off my camera)

I have really light eyes, and I can't get them to look natural brown to save my life lol.

Any one have any tips at all?

Re: Changing eye color?

Lauren, there are many ways to change the eye color to brown / dark.
The 1st sample attached shows the addition of a Selective Color adj layer with slider movement in the Neutrals Channel.
The 2nd example uses a frequency separation where a blank layer was added over the Gaussian Blur / Low Frequency layer and the iris was painted.
There are many other ways to accomplish this in Photoshop.
Regards, Murray

Re: Changing eye color?

Lauren,
As previously stated, there are many ways to do this.
Many folks who colour B&W images use the following technique:
1) Convert : Image->Mode>CMYK
2) Select eye using your preferred method (Pen Tool to create path is best)
3) New Layer New Adjustment Layer -> curves
4) Adjust each Channel C,M,Y & K to get desired result

Hope this helps

Re: Changing eye color?

Yet another way

1. Convert image to LAB

3. Use ellipse tool to select iris

4. Add a curves layer

5. Invert the A channel then move centre point of histogram up slightly

6. Invert the B channel then slide the dark point (which is now at the top left) in towards the centre point stopping just short of touching

7 Slide the white point slider to the left about 2 steps

8 Finally in Lightness adjust curve to darken/contrast to taste

Re: Changing eye color?

I tried a gradient map with a dark and light brown, and the blend mode set to overlay. Its easy to adjust, and no colourspace changes.
