Adjusting for skin tone only

I'm wondering if someone could explain in detail how to adjust for the skin tone.
I'd like to desaturate yet make a warm tone (sepia) skin color without causing the background to change color.
I've been working with adjustment layers trying to get this result and just can't figure it out.
Thank you in advance!!
K

Re: Adjusting for skin tone only

K, welcome to RetouchPro!
The key is too isolate the skin so that you can do whatever you wish to it. Isolation of the skin can be done many ways but that depends upon the rest of the image. In some cases you may need to create a quality mask. In other images where the skin is very different in contrast or color from the bg, you can get by with working on a single color channel, or a selective color adjustment layer, or a Hue/Sat adj layer, or one of a dozen other methods.
Perhaps if you attach a sample image you will recv some suggestions specific to that image.
Regards, Murray

Re: Adjusting for skin tone only

Hi Kerry: As Murray said, there are various ways of doing this. Here is a Calvin Hollywod nice and simple tutorial, on how to desaturate skin, in fact he shows 2 ways of doing it.

Hope it helps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19RRv...ayer_embedded#!
