Help with colour change please

Hi folks - I have to change the dark blue material to a light green as per the sample. Any suggestions for the best method to keep it natural looking?
Cheers

Re: Help with colour change please

I would suggest you try a Gradient Map adjustment layer. You have a ton of flexibility. As an example here I set the color you posted as a mid point (added) and changed the white and black points to lighter and darker shades of that color respectively. But you can move them anywhere or add as many more points as you like. Attachment 1 was done with a gradient map. If you are looking for a lighter color, you can use an adj curve to brighten the image before applting the Gradient Map.
A 2nd technique I use is frequency separation. The low frequency layer has had the color changed in attachment 2.
Regards, Murray

Re: Help with colour change please

Thanks Murray. I've never used gradient map for colour before - I hope I can get it natural looking by adding loads of points. It might work well as a reduced opacity layer to underpin extensive(excessive!) col curve work. I had to crop the image in order to come under the 100k threshold: the material is a jacket being worn by a person in a room setting and will have to look realistic against head and hands etc.

I did this gradually, in a few steps.

That's the look I'm after Chillin. Any chance you could email the PS file so I can see the curves? I achieved a similar effect using Shadow/Highlight, Hue/Saturation and a Layer with Pin light. Yours looks cleaner than mine though!

Another way that you might want to look at is to convert image to LAB then apply the following:

A - Move white and black point to be just off horizontal centre. Output box = -32 Input box =125

B - Reverse the white and black points. Output box = 127 Input box = -128

Lightness - Adjust white point to brighten image after first changing A & B channels
