Challenging hair

Hey all,

Thought I'd share an attempt at a retouch, a typical stray hair scenario...

and to scale....

Just wanted to know if you thought I'd butchered it too much?

Re: Challenging hair

Tricky job Schlinky. You're on the way but stopped too soon. The blacks have filled in which is not particulary attractive and there are evident residual brush marks. I'd smooth out the forehead gradation: yes, it's in keeping with the original but, without the hair, looks odd. I have a similar job to do at the moment which is a real P in the A! I'm inclined to paint the skin and then apply a pore texture afterwards - whaddya think?

Re: Challenging hair

Thanks for the feedback, I agree, I think I have stopped too soon. There's still lots of areas I'd go back to.

I did alot of painting on the lips which I don't think looks too fake but there's an area (her left cheek) which a bit of a mess. Incidently something I tried was copying and pasting a clean area over a messy section (highpassed) and that worked ok.

Something I generally have problems with is the overall patchiness, I guess it's just a case of DnBing till it's good. I haven't heard the phrase 'blacks have filled in' before, care to elaborate?

Thanks again

Re: Challenging hair

The hair in the lower left appears very black between the highlites whereas the original pic has detail in those areas. Given the ambient lighting I would expect to see more detail in those spaces - even if her hair was black! For patchiness issues you could try the high pass layer pasted over a blurred layer. LOL I am feeling my way too with this beauty caper!
