Thumbs up Removing Background

Hi everyone,
I want to use this photo for my Facebook profile photo - as I just chopped off all my hair and donated it.

But I don't know how to remove the *(clearly) unwanted background from the photo.
I admit the only good light is in my bathroom ... and perhaps I climbed onto the sink counter. Hahha - I'm a nut I know. But let that stay between me and the retouching skills of the people on this site.

Here is the photo - all I would like is the background removed ... if someone could help me that would be greatly appreciated. If anyone wanted to play around with my photo for LINK TO MY PHOTOpractice and submissions on this thread go for it.

Thanks - Jillian

Thumbs up Re: Removing Background

Hi -
I have been working with hump and have had a great deal of fun with it. Though with this choppy hair cut I can't seem to get what I'm looking for - it's messy and airbrushed looking.

I have stated what I'm looking for with this photo - just light hearted background changes.

Hope I'm not stepping on anyones toes

Yeppers an older version of Photoshop .. just a masked gradient layer using colors close to either side of the hair for the background,.. eyelash brushes on another layer,... sharpened and tweaked the eyes a bit and added a bit of color to the lips and cheeks
