New to retouching and RetouchPro

I am dipping my toes into the world of Retouching. Of course, the first step is to have a properly lite and exposed image. Assuming that has been done (and that is not always easy to do), getting the correct skin color is my first challenge. There have been some good information on that topic on this forum, however I would like to get some opinions on including a gray card or white card and which ones are used.

Second, I am an admirer of Neil van Niekirk's work and his skin tones as in

http://neilvn.com/tangents/flash-pho...looking-flash/ - especially the second image.

Neil uses some plug-ins that include Shine Off, however before purchasing the plug-ins he uses, I would like to use Photoshop without plug-ins as much as possible, so recommendations or inks to read would be appreciated.

Many thanks...

Todd

Well, if you are a beginner, there will be a learning curve, which is the best way to learn photoshop. The plugins he uses can be achieved in photoshop with experimentation. You can take a look at a skin retouching tutorial which might help...

Many thanks...though I have been using Photoshop well before the CS era, I have not had occasion to learn some of finer details - well, most of the finer details.

Greatly appreciate the links...just what I was looking for.
