How to achieve vintage look?

Does anyone know how to acheive those two vintage tones?
I've tried using curves but couldn't get the exact results

Do you have one that you want to do it to??? Looks like they desaturated the image by almost 70 %. Then did a RED channel Curve move - pulling the shadow end down (or up visually on your graph) from 0 to around 40 levels of gray.

I'd like to do both examples

I mean is there a specific image that you are trying to apply these effects to??? The effect is virtually the same on both images - it is just that one is more heavily shadowed than the other.
