Reducing files for the web

I was wondering which interpolation method is better for reducing very large (4884 X 4080 pixel) images for the web, bicubic sharper or bicubic? I mean on the face of it one would probably choose bicubic sharper which says it is best for reduction, but I think I remember Deke McKellen saying to choose bicubic for preparing for the web as well as to reduce the file in small increments rather than do one large reduction. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.
