add film scratches to my photo without contrast

hi

i would like to use some texture , film scratches to add to my photos

i want to convert my photos in black and white and add this texture to give a look like old photo scanned

well i found some nice textures

some of them are colored , so i desaturated and blend mode soflight

yes i know i can lower the opaticity

but is there a good skill to add this texture without impact to the photos?

i mean i would like to have only for film grain or scratches , or dust from the scanner

is there a really good skill to do it ?

thanks

Using softlight does alter the contrast of your original image, mostly depending on the texture itself. Try using Multiply instead and using the Blend If sliders to take the lighter parts of the texture out of the equation. Here's an example -

In that example I split the current layers white blend if sliders to 90/240. Really depends on what you want out of the texture you plan to use for the image, you could do this in reverse using Screen.

Yeah the texture was B&W, if not I would usually desaturate it, you can then experiment with clipping a gradient map to the texture if you want some colour. Two good sites for free textures would be -

CG Textures

Texture King

Thanks for checking out my work too :)

Plug-in resources for adding film scratches and related effects (look here under "Film (scratches, edges)").

chillin, DigiEffects used to offer Photoshop plug-ins but now seems focused on video editing "host applications including Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Combustion, and Boris RED".

Their Euphoria doesn't seem to be available any more (my copy is from 2003). What did you use for your example?
