Arrow Beautiful "Vogue" skin effect?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if you could help me with figuring out this beautiful skin effect:

As you can tell it's not "cheesy magazine too much blur" style - looks more high fashion to me. The skin is smooth, but the texture is still visible (grain?).
I'd be very grateful for your tips.

Re: Beautiful "Vogue" skin effect?

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.

Well, sometimes you feel the effect or the style is hard to recreate/produce/replicate, if you don't try or experiment then you may never know.

I did shoot my children and they have that natural beautiful smooth skin, believe it or not, i do add smoothness to them and show people, all of them asked me to not do that because my kids have natural smooth skin, and with camera and lighting and little work with photoshop or similar software done properly then it's not easy to have that kind of skin, i prefer to have a model with nice skin ready than having those issues to remove it later by editing.

See the kids shots i did here [2 my daughters and one adapted son not by me]:

I think only one or two of them i did smooth skin retouch a bit.

Re: Beautiful "Vogue" skin effect?

Thank you very much.
I'll also look up pore saving retouching - sounds like something I'm looking for.

More responses will be appreciated.

Split frequency and Dodging and burning, that's all you need

Re: Beautiful "Vogue" skin effect?

There does seem to be some skin smoothing in the first two. IMHO

However what I think really saves the image is the gorgeous "contouring" and "shadowing" added to the retouch in the cheeks, side of nose, jaw, temples etc. The contouring is so nicely done in that image... that it creates a nice pro effect on its own. Not a totally natural skin look in image 1...but attractive colors and shadowing...its not frequently seen and included in a quickly done retouch these days... it helps create that 3 dimensionality that classy makeup can create.

Im used to seeing totally flat retouched faces these days... over flattened...without tonality or highlight and shadows accentuated.

Using good contouring, highlighting and shadowing can add a beautiful touch of glamour and class to a face. Its the finishing touch...even if the skin is smoothed a little.
