Advice on changing lingerie colour

Hello everyone I have a task to change some dozen of lingerie colour. My try was gradient with colour sample tool sampled colour sample. Solid colour too on different blend modes. So far gradient looked slightly better then soft light blend mode. Would you know any other methods to match that colour and to get most natural look. Thank you

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

Have seen this image in another post Here. Some advice given that may be useful.

Are you both working on the same images?

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

I found this one as a sample . How she/he managed to knock down highlights. Colour is evenly spread through out lingerie. My one is on right. What do you think guys?

I'd say a gradient map, with the lightest color set for something darker than white.

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

Isn't there a way to do it with selective color layer masked, selecting the whites and then move the sliders? Just a thought...

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

This is not complicated, just try to play more with the layers blendings.
This bid was done in Freelancer.com and I did/sent the sample but the guy choosed a cheaper one. That's why I do not like to work in the freelancers sites, 90% of the projects owners are just ignorants looking for the low price and no quality; 80% of the freelancers are ready to do the jobs almost for free and do not respect themselves (and the others). The site is great, very good administration, nothing to complain about them.
Here is the solution:
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?593gdwck8dtp3ru
You must use not 1 but 3 blended layers: down in Hard Light, 100% opacity, middle Pin Light 100% opacity, up Multiply at 64% opacity.
I dicovered this making test/error with the layers, that's all.
Enjoy!

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

Excuse the sloppy masking, I'm pecking with one finger on my trackpad.

I just sampled the purple with the paintbrush, painted it on a layer and set the blend mode to Color, and put a curve under it to control depth and detail.

Lab would be my choice as well.

Nebulaoperator, simply match the swatch values in curves. The highlights can be controlled with a fill layer on colour blend and adjusting the opacity.

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

Thank you Florin for info. I know freelancer is full of cheap retouching force. What can you do If same job can be done in India for 30 dollars and here in UK cost 100-150 GBP.
30 dollars a day or for two big money. And I believe there good retouchers who can match that quality for 30 bucks

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

Crapaud i'd love to learn LAB. After some research I found Dan Margulis .I think I will go for his book. I saw some videos what people do on LAB and I am very curious to dig it up. I still find that sample to obvious if you know what I mean but nevertheless I will try to do it tonight and post. Thank you.

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

I'm still getting my head around Lab myself, Nebulaoperator. I've only got Dan Margulis's Professional PS 7. It's aimed mainly at colour correction for print, but the techniques can be applied to just about anything. I keep meaning to get his Lab book as Prof PS 7, though expensive, was definitely worth the money.

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

Professional Photoshop: The Classic Guide to Color Correction appears to be the updated version of Prof PS 7. It only touches on Lab.

But why not just jump in the deep end and go for "Photoshop LAB Color: The Canyon Conundrum and Other Adventures in the Most Powerful Colorspace". As I said, I haven't read it yet myself, but if Prof PS 7 is any measure it'll be full of theory and well thought out examples. Don't expect an easy read.

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

Just browsing through internet and looking for the second book you've suggested. I suspect we are going slightly out of topic but still relevant. Tell me if LAB will benefit me in retouching beauty? Do you use it often or as replacement? What is your biggest revelation since you picked up that book? Curiosity taking over.

You have to see it properly masked to judge, but the curve offers much flexibility for detail. I could make it look just like Crapaud's, but personally I'm not sure that's the right look either.

To each their own, there are many ways. Use what's most intuitive for you.

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

I don't mind you having bits left unmasked as it not necessary. What I miss in your sample is blending. It does not look natural. I would really like to see one natural made on LAB. Thanks

Re: Advice on changing lingerie colour

If what you mean by "blending" is that the skin color itself does not show thru in my approach then that is a fair criticism of that technique. And you are probably right that that should be expected with fabric so sheer. Good call.

However, looking at your rendition, my criticism is that your color depth is insufficient. Specifically the highlights are lacking in color giving a two-tone look. But without a decent control sample it's hard to know for sure.
