I tried the dodge and burn once, the problem was not how to use, but the problem was when and where to D&B.

Re: how to get this look? Scott Dorman

This visual style is called hand painted HDR (High Dynamic Range).

There are two photoshop plugins that generate this kind of HDR look and effect from a single image file (instead of the 3 required with true HDR). I have both of these plugins and recommend the difficult to achieve looks they can achieve without resorting to hair pulling.

You will have to be a good producer, lighting technician, drill Sargent, third grade teacher, and photographer to get yourself an original image like His...but the effects can be had and interactively and creatively played with...

Explore the following 2 High Dynamic Range products

ReDynaMix HDR Software Plugin $16

Dynamic Photo HDR $54

From mediachance.com

and maybe others have good third party HRD plugins.

Using your own images for this...your results are sure to vary!

Sometimes great images like this are by products of great art direction, original concept management, lighting designers, wardrobe stylists, on-site directors, a practiced photographer AND then...a good retoucher too!

Cheers
