how to get this look? Scott Dorman

I'm really impressed on his work Scott Dorman. I love how he enhanced the colors. Do you know how to retouched this?

Looks like good composition, some lights, HDR, and capturing the right moment.

Re: how to get this look? Scott Dorman

Here's an article about Scott collaborating with a photographer:
http://www.thefstopmag.com/?p=121

I worked with Scott briefly when I first entered the industry in 2000. Nice guy. He was then using a Quantel Paintbox in conjunction with photoshop. Pretty sure the Paintbox is not in his arsenal anymore though

That particular image looks like a multi-image composite. Lots of curves adjustment layers are probably used to create depth and shape.
I'm not sure how long he'd been retouching before I worked with him, but I'm guessing over 5 years. Add another 11 to that, and so to answer the question "how did he get this look?" boils down to this: lots of practice. I doubt there's any plug-ins or shortcuts going on here.

Wow! Your so lucky I really admired his retouching skills. You're right I need a lot of practice to that. Thanks for sharing the article! I hope I can find a tutorial for that

Scott Dorman isn't the author of that photo, Job Hall is.

You can realize this effect with db (dodge and burning ) and use topaz adjust (clarify filter)

Looks like Job Hall was the art director. That behance site is for art direction, not retouching. Dorman's portfolio has the image in it:

His work is amazing.
I've tried to dodge and burn and have the calvanize dvd but still don't know how to achieve a look similar to this.

Re: how to get this look? Scott Dorman

I tried the dodge and burn once, the problem was not how to use, but the problem was when and where to D&B.

Re: how to get this look? Scott Dorman

This visual style is called hand painted HDR (High Dynamic Range).

There are two photoshop plugins that generate this kind of HDR look and effect from a single image file (instead of the 3 required with true HDR). I have both of these plugins and recommend the difficult to achieve looks they can achieve without resorting to hair pulling.

You will have to be a good producer, lighting technician, drill Sargent, third grade teacher, and photographer to get yourself an original image like His...but the effects can be had and interactively and creatively played with...

Explore the following 2 High Dynamic Range products

ReDynaMix HDR Software Plugin $16

Dynamic Photo HDR $54

From mediachance.com

and maybe others have good third party HRD plugins.

Using your own images for this...your results are sure to vary!

Sometimes great images like this are by products of great art direction, original concept management, lighting designers, wardrobe stylists, on-site directors, a practiced photographer AND then...a good retoucher too!

Cheers
