I have seen the retouching for these children and its horrible how they distort the true beauty of these kids...Whats the deal?

There's a show of the same name on the TLC cable station that is quite disturbing... Those kids are on pageant crack! Oh my.

Agreed. That whole practice and subculture are just plain horrible.

And it's not just the retouching. It's the whole practice of putting on that much make-up on such little kids in a style that would be inappropriate for -- and would send a bad message even about -- even an adult woman.

Unfortunately those children's parents are to blame, as well as the pageant producers. Those pageant producers could easily forbid the kind of ghastly excess that's too often done for those so-called 'beauty' pageants which, when that kind of excess is included in them, are anything but that.

And in my humble opinion, therein lies the problem. Aside from personally thinking that the show is a travesty (only seen the clip on ET), guess I am old fashioned. (I was not allowed to wear even lip gloss until I was 14 and certainly no eye make-up, it was referred to as being "false ripe"), I think that far too many retouchers these days go way too far.Take a look at so many of magazine adverts. There is no character left in any of the faces. By all means remove obvious flaws all in the name of selling your product, but nobody has pore-less skin or nary a glimmer of a fine wrinkle. I would hate to look as plastic as they do. The little girl on your link has obviously had the bejesus of retouching done to her to the point where the picture looks more like an illustration. No toning, just flat flat flat. No expert myself, but that retoucher should be drummed out of the corp!

Speaking of, I remember seeing this site some time ago and was like SHEESH! Places like this give us professional retouch artists a bad name:

Talk about over-Photoshoped! Why not just buy a doll and be done with it if you want something that looks like that!

Thankfully I've never been approached, I'm not sure I'd be able to remain professional as I declined.

Somebody should do a social study and follow these kids for 10-20 years and see how they turn out-!
