Resource Recommendations

I'm a photographer who is looking to learn more about professional portrait retouching. I've done some basic retouching before (skin softening, basic compositing, etc) but I'm hoping to learn some more advanced techniques. Would you guys/gals be able to point me to some good learning materials? I'm mainly a book guy, but would love suggestions for DVDs or any other resource you think would be helpful.

If possible, I'd like a recommendation for a book/DVD about toning techniques as well because I'm really intrigued by this look.

I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thanks!

Re: Resource Recommendations

Start with a BASIC:

1. Photoshop Restoration & Retouching, 3rd edition

2. Photoshop CS5: Portrait Retouching

Btw, I am also a newbie here, but THANKS to above-mentioned two I learned *A LOT* in very short time. Good luck!

Re: Resource Recommendations is a great way to really start from the beginning. I frequent revisit the basic photoshop videos even though I understand the basic stuff, but watch it through, you may see a small thing here and there.

Re: Resource Recommendations

I'm pretty sure she uses plugins or actions, I just don't know which! The skin smoothing, liquifying and transform are done manually, but I think that everything else is made with plugins. I am also interested to know how to achieve this look.
