Wink Photograph for practice!

Hello to all!

I'm new in the forum. My name is Juan Francisco, a chilean photographer currently living in Moscow, Russia. I started my business not long ago and I frequently do the retouch myself on all my photos.

Anyways, I've seen quite a lot of threads both of people offering and asking for practice photos so I'd like to contribute with my 2 kopeks (no cents here)

Here is a link to the offered picture for retouch plus my own version/vision of this photograph. Please take a look at it and if you'd like to work on it please let me know by replying and I'll upload a high-res version for you to play with )

My best regards!
Juan Francisco

Re: Photograph for practice!

Hi Juan,

I am practicing my retouching and might like to play with your image. Can't say I will get to it right away, but it looks like a fun image to play with.

Personally, I'm not really crazy about that 2-D/illustration look. It reads very flat. It is fine if that is what you are going for, but it really does not grab my interest. I prefer retouching that gives the photo more depth rather than takes it away. The lack of shadow for the man makes it read even more like a cut-out. The colors are fun, but I can't help thinking he looks a little like a vampire wearing eyeshadow and lipstick because of the effect on the face and teeth.

Re: Photograph for practice!

Hello Siciliana!

Thank you for your message, I'm glad that you'd like my image to experiment with )

That comic/illustration look was an attempt at doing something different from what I usually do (portrait, beauty retouching). At least you could catch that he looks like a vampire (we did a photosession with him as a vampire)

Anyways, you can download the original full-res 16/bit tiff file (109Mb) from http://www.butterflyphoto.ru/images/IMG_6390.tif.zip

If you create something interesting and decide to use it anywhere, as in your portfolio, please credit me. A link back to my site would also be very welcomed ))

Regards!
Juan Fco.

Thanks for making your excellent photograph available to practice on... I just wanted to try some sculpting on his Abs and try to stay within the comic/cartoonish theme

Re: Photograph for practice!

Hi Juan, it's been a while but I had more free time recently and so have managed to complete the image. I have a few versions available, including a B&W version and a slightly more cropped in version and of course just a straight retouch with original scene (minus distractions).

Excuse the fantastical setting, I realise it's not realistic, it just amused me

Hope you enjoy the result and I will email you with details of how/where to download the various versions if you so desire.
