help with flash hotspot on rough skin

had a shoot couple of weeks ago and although the model was great and make up artist as well I have been having a hard time working on some rough skin areas hit bit the light!

I have been trying to paint on a darken mode layer with unsatisfactory results.

what do you guys recommend or is there a tutorial out there that tackles this sort of problem?

cheers,

Re: help with flash hotspot on rough skin

Not sure how the beauty retouchers would handle this but you might try the following - if you have PS CS5
  • Dup layer select nose area highlight and apply Content aware fill. Assuming you want to retain some highlight detail reduce opacity as required
  • You may find that while the fill ok colour changes occur. Add a new blank layer set to Colour and sample a skin tone near the highlight and paint over. Again reduce opacity as required
  • I also used the patch tool near the eyebrow to soften a little on a combined layer

Re: help with flash hotspot on rough skin

Done in 4 minutes:

Patch tool select the hot area and sample area from the cheek below.
New layer, 50% grey and soft light blending. Paint with black or white to balance shadow/light
areas.

Same on the nose area

You could get better results working more carefully than I did, but at least you can see on my example what can be achieved in just 4 mins

Hope it helps!

Re: help with flash hotspot on rough skin

I tried cloning at 25 - 50% opacity in Color mode. Some Levels adjustments for tone blending
