New Topaz plug-in coming: B&W Effects
Topaz is about to release a new plug-in called B&W Effects. Beyond black and white effects you can also add artistic, color and edge effects.

Keep an eye on the page linked above for pricing and discount coupon info.

I updated the web page with revised copy and new examples. Here's a larger version showing one of the before-and-afters.

It's getting to the point where if you have the Topaz bundle you don't need many other plug-ins!

Are they going to have a selenium tone with this new filter? Typically, the purplish addition to an image makes the blacks very dense and gives the greys a richer look.

Hi Tim,

Yes. Here's a screenshot of the relevant presets (under the "Toned Collection" category).

Thank you PnP, that looks interesting. Hopefully they will allow for a little jiggery pokery with the presets so you can get exactly what you want. I will most definitely be interested in this. Thanks again PnP.

Tim, you'll be happy to see you can fully adjust any preset in minute detail. The screenshot shot shows the four categories of customization along with a hint of what lies beneath. The really cool thing is Topaz Adjust and Simplify technology is built in, so you're getting a couple of extra otherwise standalone plug-ins included.

Don't pay full price for this; wait until I post the discount code (waiting for the official release next week).

I've also attached an image I'm currently playing with, using both B&W Effects and a Photoshop Elliptical marquee selection. I shot it at Disneyland last week while waiting for people to get finished with Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! (See original for comparison.)

That is going to be an interesting plug-in. I did some selenium tones using PS which worked out I feel but if I didn't use PS for any length of time it was like starting all over again.
I am in the process of trying to find another piece of software to do what PS did without the monstrous learning curve. I thought I had found it with PSP X2 but the comments I have been reading about Corel and PSP's instability now has me totally baffled as to where to go.

Photoshop can be as simple or as complicated as you want. And if you already have it, you might as well keep going since it's the #1 image editing app and huge amounts of tutorials are available, both free and commercial.

Or you might also explore actions for Photoshop by writing your own as you go through your toning process (to automate it the next time), or check out others' ready-made actions packages (such as 1-Click actions).

Re: New Topaz plug-in coming: B&W Effects
I don't have PS anymore which is why I am looking for a new program and at the moment I am considering Lightroom or PS Elements as a replacement. The other thing is that I am not the most gifted person when it comes to so simpler is better for me. That is one reason why the Topaz plug-in seemed so interesting to me for my B&W's.
Some of my color images that I shoot will be turned into photoart which has a certain appeal for me. To that end I have Painter X and Painter Essentials 4 to help with that aspect of my endeavors.
