Pretty girl for retouching practice

Hello!

I am making another of my discarded pictures available to the forum members for practicing. Once again, if someone is interested just let me know and I'll give you a link to a full-res tiff file for you to play on.

PS. I would love to see really stunning works from this one and who knows, maybe I can find a retouch artist to help me and work with me when overloaded )

Great, Julian!

You all should know this, but just in case: If you like your result and would like to use the retouched image on your own portfolio, be my guest. Just don't forget to credit me as the photographer and put a link back to my own site ))

I know, it has some mistakes and i couldn't deal very well with her hair but here is one of many possible renders...

It also lost texture with the downsize but oh well...

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

May I give it a try, since it has been slow at work, and also, may I add this to my portfolio if it deems successful, with credit to whoever own the shot/photo?
Again, thanks!

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

Here are a couple of images. By the way, she's not a pretty girl. She's drop-dead gorgeous. But that's just one man's opinion.

This one is the full shot at 25%

And this is cropped at 50%

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

Thanks for the file. I had a go at it while I was watching a movie this evening. The skin is not perfect yet (still needs more correction), I would like to come back later and finish this off, but I'm off to bed now and who knows when I'll get back to it... so here's my version, in progress.

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

I like how Siciliana's came out, and actually my file is very similiar to yours. I like how her skin doesn't go to smooth and the original texture of her skin is still visible.

Boneappetit... I think you did a great job. I would be very satisfied with that at a higher resolution. Beautiful. My only suggestion would be be brighter eyes and whiter teeth. That seems to be my pet peeve - although sometimes natural lighting doesn't call for it. But in a portrait setting like this with strobe - I like to make the teeth white (even if she is holding a red shiny lipstick sleeve in her mouth)!

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

Here is a slightly improved(I think, at least) version of the one I did last night. After my evening cocktail wore off and I looked at it again this morning, I decided to tone down the extreme color I was playing with, I smoothed out some of the tonal transitions and enlarged the eyes slightly.

For some reason every time I look at this picture, I think of replacing the lipstick tube with an ear of corn.

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

Here is the image I finally finished, took...I wanna say about a good 4/5 hrs...keep in mind, I'm at work.

I took out the hot spot, fixed the eye shadow imperfection on the left eye, and even finished it, took out some of the annoying loose strands of hair, played dentist and even whiten them a bit, and I did not like the way the feather appear torn or cut off, so I created a good fix so it seems more congruent with the other feather.
This is my first try at portrait as I usually do product retouching.
Please critique!

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

Careful with the eye retouch the eye whites shouldn't over power the image less is more in the case of eyes when they start to look like pageant eyes you gone way way to far. The teeth should be natural not to bright again just correct color and remove cast. Some good skin work going on and one maybe because of resizing looks blurred maybe frequency separation and to much blur of a dup of the low frequency layer. Just some general input covering what i see here so far I know maybe I should connect the dots but this is more fun lol....

Thanx for your critique, i agree with you... I should have brighten her teeth a little bit... The problem with the size is because of the 100kb limit... If I make it bigger i have to sacrifice quality... Your tweak on the picture looks good.

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

Um, OK, I changed my mind again... I don't usually enlarge eyes and it was really making me feel weird to look at, even though it was only a couple of percentage points, so I changed them back. This is my final version, not a huge difference from my first one to this one, but I think this represents the way I usually retouch files, natural looking, but improved lighting, skin and make-up.

Thanks again, Francisco, for the file to practice with.

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

And some post toning effects I came up with that may appeal to some... I like the 2nd and 3rd. What do others think or do they prefer the original, without effects.

Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

Hi all, here is my take on the shot. This is my first type of "high-end" retouch I've ever done (I have been doing retouching for the past year for myself mainly, I do photography locally but I guess you can call what I do "low end" retouching lol, as I tend to use the dreaded skin blurring technique with no layers. However I have become very good using that method and can make large prints (largest has been a 20x24 so far with no give away of the "blur" other than the mostly missing pores, skin for the most part does not look plastic and my clients love it---I have done a lot of photog. for local hair stylists for their hair models to use for marketing, etc.) What has brought me to this site was that I have had some interest in my retouching lately from some other photogs and MUA and was asked if I do "high end" retouching yesterday, which honestly I had never heard of so that got me looking more into what this is exactly and the techniques involved. I have tried to quickly pick up some new techniques to try to fit into this genre and would love to learn as much as I can. Please give me your input on my starting retouch of this photo---did not finish yet I still have a lot to do on it and a lot of small details to fix up still and did nothing yet to the skin of the neck and chest, but I wanted to go ahead and post to get you all's comments and see if I am at least headed in the right direction. Thank you!

Cool Re: Pretty girl for retouching practice

Def. lost some skin texture trying to place those images together and resize, maybe this will be a little better without both. Thanks again for your comments and any techniques you can tell me about!
