How do people achieve this 3d, Red Look

I've seen this done in a few music videos and wondered how this would be possible in photoshop?

A simple way to do this would be shifting your colour channels, go to the channels palette and click on say the red channel, shift it left 5 clicks on the arrow key, then click on the blue channel and shift this right 5 clicks on the arrow key. Now click back on the RGB channel to see the effect. Depending on the image size you may have to shift them more than this, if you are walways working on the same sized images and action could be easily created.

Hey dvbear, I'm assuming you are a hipster yourself. (judging by the music on the videos you're referencing) Stop trying to do what they do and be original. I thought that's what being a hipster was all about.

Although I do occasionally try on a pair of skinny jeans I cannot claim I am a hipster. I just wanted to know how to achieve this because I am helping my friend put together a music video and he wanted this 3d look come out. I thought if I could achieve this look in photoshop I'd probably be able to do it in After Effects too. BTW even though I'm not a hipster, I still thank you for your advice. I wil definitely try to be more original.

the technique is called 'anaglyph'. Searching on the name should help you find some different ways to do it. HTH - Nancy
