Need Help With Photo Card

Hi everyone,

I visited my Uncle this past weekend and took some shots of him and his chocolate lab, Shelby. He's wanting to use one of the pics for a Christmas card, but I don't think the quality of the photos are very good. I'm not very good using Photoshop to enhance or modify photos. I was wondering if any of you could offer some pointers that would enhance the photo or if you may want to do some tweaking yourself with the pic. As you are not yet proficient in Photoshop and I am sure you want to do it yourself to make it personal. Why not start simply?

A possible starting point ?:
Crop your image to make it Portrait mode
Using Levels just move the middle slider to brighten your Uncle and friend
Add some Text

Example below created this way - Click on the attached thumbnail and wait a few seconds and the image should change from before (after crop) and final one brightned and text added

Start your corrections as notified above, also and you can add more ground on the below, light a little bit you Uncle and lab, and apply a soft vignette around the picture.
