What do you make of this comping request?

Just curious what you pros would make of this hypothetical request. Particularly your reasons for whatever answer you give

"I have a dozen images on a green screen background which I need to be extracted and composited onto a new background. The pay for this will be $50"

Well, if the subjects are high contrast against a green bg and you used an completely automated action and the extracts required no processing after dropping onto a new bg, that might be acceptable. If the subjects are Christmas trees, martians, or models wearing green dresses with blond frizzy hair, that would be more like $50/ image, or $50/hr.

my first reaction is to laugh, then to decide it must be written wrong, so what does "The pay for this will be $50" mean? Then onto what Murray says above.

I would ask the 'prospect' why he thought $50 would cover it and then explain why it wouldn't. Ostensibly simple, such jobs just gum up the works.

Good points gentlemen and my first reaction was to laugh when I heard this particularly as it is not quite hypothetical and it comes from a photographer who charges for commercial work! Not known at this time just what the images are and how much work but I think I will pass on this one

I think I may have seen the same notice as yourself, the more worrying factor is the amount of people who would snatch his hand off, even if there were no pay. It's not quite a Craiglist classic, but it's in the same ballpark.

It's rates like this that have me worried though, I couldn't afford to pay UK tax on such a ridiculous sum.
