Sherlock Holmes Alpha II ENGRAVER question

My book, THE TREASURE OF NAMAKAGON, needs your help.

I need to duplicate the engraving effect used in the new Sherlock movie credits. I have Photoshop Elements 2.0 and 4.0. I downloaded Alpha 2's Engraver but couldn't get it to function. Can anyone tell me if it is compatible w/ Elements 2.0 or 4.0?

Are there other options that will give me the engraver effect? Other free plug ins? Thanks. Let me know if you'd like a copy of my book in trade for your advice.

Welcome to RetouchPRO...

After searching the site (http://www.alphaplugins.com/index.php) I was not able to determine if it's PSE 2 or 4 compatible. Far as I could tell there were no System Requirements specified. There's mention of compatibility of Photoshop CS2 and above. I don't know if that means "incompatible with CS1 and prior versions."

Can't get it to function means (which of the below?):
a. You cannot see the plugin listed in the Filters menu
b. You can see the plugin listed in the Filters menu, but when you chose it nothing happens
c. You can see the plugin listed in the Filters menu, but when you chose it you get some sort of error message
d. Something else? (What?)

Did the installation require online registration?

If so, did you register the plugin?

From the website it appears there are two versions of this plugin... one for 32-bit applications and one for 64-bit applications. The 64-bit version would most likely not work under PSE 2 or 4 (both are 32-bit).

Alternative: I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but maybe... and it's free.

Thanks for the quick reply. It did not show up in the filters menu. I don't recall seeing a request to register the trial plug in. I think my old PSE 2.0 just doesn't support it. I have a 4.0 version somewhere and will try that if and when I find it.

Meanwhile, it seems there must be a bare bones version of engraver out there by another company.

I downloaded Xlyograph le and got it to show up in PSE filters but it is ghosted. Ran out of time. All for today. Thanks. Merry Christmas. J L
