Re: Need help blending.

I think part of the problem is that his feet are cut off. Realistically, you likely wouldn't photograph him in this setting and omit his feet. That said, that's one of the smaller issues.

His skin tones aren't quite right. I think it needs a bit more yellow, a tad more red, and a tiny bit more magenta. Those are technical terms in descending order of amount.

Next, the shadow is falling at the wrong angle relative to the main light. This shadow is of an angle as if the direction of the main light were directly perpendicular to the front edge of the chair seat. The light in fact is coming further from the side and short lighting him. You're not far off, but I think the shadow needs to fall further to the left.

Next, the shadow looks like it was made from the outline of the musician's cutout. If the light were hitting him, you would not see a gap between the cello and his body as seen on the ground.

Lastly, I think the shadow would also be softer because it appears to be a relatively large light source as per the reflection in the cello.

I feel like the selection you made to cut it the subject out should be feathered just a little.

Re: Need help blending.

what you could do it copy a section of the BG onto a new layer (big enough to cover the subject.
then blur it until the colors are blended
then "Overlay" it onto the subject

that will add the color of the environment to the subject

Re: Need help blending.

the shadow is a bit long, as if the light were lower than it probably was. also, only the sun casts consistent shadows. this shadow should be sharp at the base an get softer as it falls off, as well as become less dense. i don't t think such a strong emphasis on the shadow is necessay here.

in regard to color, you will have to match one to the other... bg to fg or vice versa. the bg is tinted green, and the guy is rather magenta. id be inclined to swing his colors to match the green bg. try reducing the blues and magentas is the mids and darks. i personally like using color balance, but whatevr gets the job done is fine.
