Re: best way skin texture?

I use portraiture almost at the end of the whole cleaning process, or depending on the image.
First you do your basic cleaning, and before the dodge and burn, use portraiture trying to be as subtle as possible, only to make sure the skin tone is even.
That's how I do it.

Re: best way skin texture?

I honestly do not understand why anyone would use that. It sometimes seems like a lack of refined taste, but if you're trying to go through a relatively high volume of images, they often look better just leaving things more natural. You don't need everything to be overly smoothed, and quite often I feel like this concept is propagated by viewing things at larger than life magnifications making little bits of texture variation feel mountainous. Personally I'd take that time adjusting portraiture settings and even out the tones manually. Side by side the look is 100% better.
