Portrait has too much red

I have a portrait that has too much red. I tried the hue/saturation to reduce the red from the skin, howvever, it also reduced the color from the clothes. I would like to know how to reduce the red from the skin and use a mask in hue/saturation to paint the color back on the clothes. I tried to use a mask on hue/saturation but it didn't work. Thanks.

Re: Portrait has too much red

Hi Gerald

You did not mention what editing tool you are using or version so I will assume Photoshop CS5.x

- On the original layer make a selection of the skin areas you want to remove color.
- Add an adjustment layer over the original image (this will automatically turn the selection into a layer mask for the adjustment layer). To adjust skin tones I typically use a Curves Adjustment Layer yet you can use other approaches and alternate Adjustment Layers
- At this point or later, you can click on the Layer Mask and use Select > Refine Mask to tune in the edges of the Layer Mask as desired
- Change Adjustment Layer attributes to create the desired skin tones (the mask will prevent changes from happening to non-skin areas.

Hope this gets you started.
