Re: Background trouble...

i would select the woman (select BG first then invert it)
copy her to a new layer
copy original layer and flip it vertically and erase the top part (originally the bottom)
line up the top with where the BG on the original ends
clone out the woman from the flipped layer

thats how i would do it anyway

Re: Background trouble...

As dataflow suggests. Maybe even add a subtle gradation of a darker tone from the bottom up. Or, if you would like to extend the image overall, replace the whole background with a base solid colour, add grain and mood lighting to suit.

Re: Background trouble...

As above but in all honesty, it would be easier to replace the whole background I think. The way it's been lit would make it difficult to blend parts together effectively. Do you have a higher res version? I'll happily work it and let you have a PSD with layers so you can see the workflow and play around with it...

Re: Background trouble...

Hiya Neil,

How about something like this?
Very loose selection of singer, then radial grad in lighten mode.

Re: Background trouble...

If you don't want to replace the background, just use the exsisting one.

1.Quick pen selection of the singer
2.Content-Aware Fill on the background to remove the singer
3.Content-Aware-Scale to resize the background

Re: Background trouble...

Many ways to go about it.

Usually what I would do is:
1. Copy the foreground (singer) onto a hidden new layer.
2. Then clone stamp tool to (roughly) cover up the unwanted background.
3. Then healing brush to make the old and new background blend nicely.

Then use a mask on the layer of the woman to bring her back (I just used quick mask + refine edge + manual brushing).
In my example I also used curves to darken the bottom a bit.
