Fixing banding in skin tone shadows?

I come across this issue fairly often and find it a real chore to fix. I find it most on the neck, under the jaw, near hairline, and the armpits. It takes a lot more finessing than your typical color correction and/or dodge & burn.

These examples show the shadows banding in magenta and green.

I was wondering if anyone had any great suggestions or methods they use to fix this issue that might not be so labor intensive.

Thanks... David

Re: Fixing banding in skin tone shadows?

One image was given to me as a PSD and the other RAW. Without converting them, the banding is visible. The attached examples are obviously JPEGs but the banding is the same.

Re: Fixing banding in skin tone shadows?

Thanks for the extra info. Where they shot with a Canon 1D....it had the problem of banding in the RAWfiles, also the 5DMK2 has stories about banding.
Fred Miranda has a ISO-BR action which removes the banding and noise without affecting the sharpness...other commonly known methods are concerting and working on 16bit images, adding noise...
Here is also a nice article:http://ronbigelow.com/articles/poste...terization.htm
