Rescuing images which are slightly out of focus

I know there is no 100% solution, but there are some plugins and techniques which could be sometimes handy. What do you think its the best?

Re: Rescuing images which are slightly out of focu

you can try something like this:
_MG_5981_blur-deblur.jpg

HP to get some of the HF that's still in the image
(may add some USM with half the HP's r, 70%)
set image to Linear blend, opacity less than 50% (something like 40 in this case)
add some HF noise, overlay blend (25%)
stamp and SmartSharpen (something like the USM's settings should do the trick)

(the example here is with jpeg compression 25%, to fit in the 100k)

That would make a lot more sense without the initials....

Depending on the overall quality, there are a ton of ways to salvage a less than stellar shot.
Sometimes using Levels, then Contrast before sharpening will do a lot to bring a photo back.
Topaz Labs has software that is designed to bring it back as well.
I've used High Pass both for noise reduction and out of focus too. Each situation is different and if one series of steps doesn't work, another might but if two tries don't do it, it might not be worth saving.

A free software called GIMP with a free plug-in called Refocus-it , which has been around since 2004, should take care of it.

http://refocus-it.sourceforge.net/

GIMP has always been some light years ahead of Photoshop in terms of technology.

I assume you mean the abbreviations.

HP = high pass
HF = high frequency
USM = unsharp mask

welcome to retouching

I've been a retoucher since 2003, but thanks...
I just don't feel that anyone should have to stop and think what one person means when this is (apparently) an international forum.

I guess I didn't think that you will have to think when I speak "photoshop"

just joking... but when it comes to retouching those are common terms

if you need any explanation on what I wrote in the first reply, let me know

I've worked both independently and for a studio for 5 years with 2 other retouchers and we never "spoke" like that (using abbreviations). /shrugs
I don't need translations, but thanks anyway.
