You build the 'corrections' for the DLP's where and how?

You may use several software (like Argyll CMS, OpenColorIO, german ColorLogic CoPrA etc) with targets to build-up these classes of profiles, and video software (like Adobe Speedgrade, Red Giant etc) to build up the luts.

Also 3D LUT Creator seems to be very handy
I've announced new update with the link to download demo version.

I have Copra. But I still don't understand the use of the targets and how I'd alter anything visually to produce the resulting LUT. You load an image then....?

Andrew, if you need create Device Link profile, you may use CLEditRGB_v31_144dpi target, make several adjustments (color, tonality, contrast, shadows & highlights, but without applying gradients, grain, blur etc), final color space must be RGB (or CMYK for CMYK profiles with appropriate target)

Select Device Link editing, load adjusted target, check warnings (avois illegal color manipulations, or you will receive banding), Source & Target color spaces must be in the same color space like RGB, click next (make adjustments if needed), click next - give a name, select a format and size, save - the profile will be saved here
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color
Mac
HD/Library/ColorSync/Profiles

The result of applying device link and abstract profiles in Color Lookup adjustment layer will depends of the image profile (sRGB, Adobe RGB etc)
Just a remarque

Also you can apply these classes of profiles via Edit> Convert to Profile> Advanced (from CS4), just select appropriate Device Link or Abstract. The may profile (sRGB, Adobe RGB, ProPhoto etc) will stay the same, but the layers will be flatten.

Make adjustments how? I still don't get that. Why that target? What is the rational for the selection of the color patches and thus target? I see a number of different ones in different color models. One is used based on what?

Device link profiles may be applied mostly in RGB, so you use RGB target
Device link may be applied also in CMYK, use CMYK target

Abstract can be used in lab, cmyk, rgb, in this case - only Lab target, saved in lab color space
OK that makes sense but in terms of RGB targets, there are an unlimited number. Does it matter? I create my own patches and targets. Does that matter?

Quote:
Make a copy of RGB target, open it in Photoshop, make any kind of adjustments (curves, match color, selective color, gradient map (not gradient tool) etc.), save as TIFF 8- or 16-bit, open in copra
OK so you do have to apply some Photoshop edit (which could be from there an action etc).

Seems there are no way to use grayscale profiles within Color Lookup, it's inactive.
Concerning luts, mostly film grading software can create them like Speedgrade

Sure, you can try to use your own targets, or the targets from other applications like basICColor DeviL (you can download a trial for example, with targets)

Concerning actions, sure, it's easy, but with some restrictions, please avoid gradients, film grain, vignette, frames, blur etc
