Seriously the amount of "and can you remove the creases" work just about keeps me in tea and biscuits.

Yes, create a small (maybe 16px x 16px) document, fill with white, define as a pattern, then use patch tool in pattern mode to create smooth continuous tones between edges of a selection.

I came up with it a few years back and use it all the time. Works in lots of situations.
