Retouching Hair

I did a model beauty shoot and my consultant does not like some of the bald and other imperfect areas:

When I tried to retouch, she said my results did not look like real hair strands. What is the best way to proceed? thanks.

(pity, don't see a way to insert photos here)

Re: Retouching Hair

HI Ken, best way to tackle this problem is to graft a patch from areas with same lighting, jump it to a new layer, warp, transform into natural flow, add a black mask and paint it back in with a brush of the hair size - actually hair by hair...

Hope this helps

Re: Retouching Hair

Delicate cloning in either darken or lighten blend mode. As suggested above also cloning in (probably on overlay mode)

Re: Retouching Hair

Amica, that was way too convoluted for me sorry. (I don't even do warp -- way to hairy for me -- ah... pun)

Mike, that's more manageable for me, yet that's kind of what I was doing yet I got that comment. Did not use modes yet....

I'll get more notes from the consultant soon and try again and re-post if hit same wall.

Re: Retouching Hair

Ken, not sure what version of PS you are in or when the clone stamp was improved. I'm in PS CS 5.5 and you have a lot of control over the clone stamp tool. If you are using Mike's suggestion, once you select the clone stamp tool from the tool bar, if you select "clone source" from the windows menu you'll see you can check the overlay box so you can kinda see the result when you mouse over. You can also rotate the clone source from there so you can make the direction of the hair match perfectly before applying the adjustment. Hope that helps.

Re: Retouching Hair

Crazy, thanks, great tip. I'm on CS5. I remember vaguely reading about that so will take a peek. 12.0, will also look at updates on that. ah... tried to update, took forever and then said done with errors, so I'll be on CS5 only.
