Editing RAW Portraits in Lr and Ps

I take all of my pictures in RAW and I usually do a basic editing in Lightroom then take it over to Photoshop to do some more detailed work. My question was, when I take it to photoshop it saves it as a TIFF, does this lower the quality compared to the original RAW file?

A lot of the work I do are portraits, so should I be editing them in Photoshop or Camera RAW then do local adjustments in Lightroom or stick to Lr then Ps and save it as a TIFF? Thanks in advance =)

Raw is read only in Adobe raw converters, you're building a set of rendering instructions which create RGB pixels from the raw. If you save high bit (more than 8-bits per color), additional editing in Photoshop will not degrade visible image quality (although all subsequent edits are not non destructive in the end). Try to accomplish as much as you can globally in Lightroom, save off the high rez high bit data for Photoshop and precise retouch work. LR.'s tools for this are crude although might be able to fix most of the big issues.

Oh okay thanks! So you're saying to do majority of the edits in LR, then use the "Edit In" option to edit in photoshop with lightroom adjustments? And this won't degrade the resolution?

Setup Export preferences for high rez, wide gamut, high bit.
