Help isoliting light

Help isoliting light

I want to isolate the beams going from the lightsource bij turning the background black totally. The problem is when I turn the background black I lose some of the light. How can I do this the best way. Any idea’s? The link leads to a raw file of the image.

You can just select a large soft brush, set the mode of it to Overlay and paint over the areas you want to darken / blacken. If you want to get fancy you can do it on a separate layer and add a layer mask do you can fine tune it or strech the light rays etc. A basic job should take you less than 5 mins.

Throw a curve adjustment layer over it, and push the black density until your desired black background. Then use a layer mask to brush out the areas you want to see, using a low brush opacity. Match the brush size o the desired with of your lens flare, and ease it back into view. You can always turn on and off the adjustment layer to see what you want to keep and hide.
