Making Text Look Realistic?

I have quite a lot of this sort of work coming up.
– Take a product = remove existing text;
– then replace it with proposed new text

inevitably, as this is something that is being kicked about by various Marketing "bods" the text will go through dozens of revisions – so flexibility is important.

Equally important though, is making the text look as realistic as I can, given that it needs to follow the shape of the can. I have seen a few different approaches applied to similar projects – spherizing, warping etc – I am just not sure what approach to take myself.

Any suggestions on likely approaches to this?

Two images attached.
One is the blank product (a hairspray in this case)
the second has the text on the front – in its basic format.

Re: Making Text Look Realistic?

If you look at the numbers bellow you can see they get thinner when aproaching to the side and bend a little towards the center of the can.

Solution: Make the text a bit wider then the can. Then use Free warp option. Warp it to your liking. Tip: Divide the text to two parts. Warp only the left one, and bend it toward the center - more at the bottom, less at the top.

English is not my first language, so my description may be vague. Hope it helps though.

The light adaptation is something different. Use gradient map, that matches the highlights and darks of the the can. For the darks I suggest using dark grey rather then black. Set it to overlay/softlight/linear light mode (your choice - very different results).
